Another elephant shot and killed in southern India

11/13/2016

These are critical times for elephants in southern India. Nearly every day we see evidence that conflicts between elephants and humans are rising, with dramatic consequences.

Rajeev N. Kurup posted these images of an elephant that had been shot, probably after a conflict with farmers.

He wrote on Facebook:

“A wild elephant was found dead with bullet injuries at Kenichira in Wayanad district. The elephant was found in a paddy field at Athirattukunnil in Kenichira on Sunday morning.”

One of our goals with CLIC Abroad and ‘Elephants in the Coffee’ is to raise awareness of the conflict, and seek measures to end senseless killing like this.
